my fren suay suay accept an unknown bluetooth invitation...right now his phone is sending mms randomly to random people on his phone list...

Cabir eats Symbian

A NEW VIRUS that is designed to attack mobile phones has been discovered in the wild.
Cabir, which distributes itself through Bluetooth connections, attacks the Symbian operating system used by several maker of mobiles, including the big one Nokia.
The virus was discovered by the French division of the Russian security software developer Kaspersky Labs, who think it was designed by an international band of hackers. The goal of the hackers is to prove that no technology is safe from attacks.
If your phone is infected, the virus writes the inscription 'Caribe' on the screen. The virus is then activated every time that the phone is turned on. It scans for phones that are also using the Bluetooth technology and is able to send a copy of itself to the first handset that it finds.
So far there does not seem to be any other negative payload.

Cabir is a bluetooth using worm that runs in Symbian mobile phones that support Series 60 platform.
Cabir replicates over bluetooth connections and arrives to phone messaging inbox as caribe.sis file what contains the worm. When user clicks the caribe.sis and chooses to install the Caribe.sis file the worm activates and starts looking for new devices to infect over bluetooth.
When Cabir worm finds another bluetooth device it willstart sending infected SIS files to it, and lock to that phone so that it won't look other phones even when the target moves out of range.
Please note that Cabir worm can reach only mobile phones that support bluetooth, and are in discoverable mode.

as we get 3g and 4 g phones we also get more viruses wonder why pple liek to get advanced phones when they don't use the functions anyway... not talking about bluetooth of cuourse

Only thing your friend can do now is to request for a software upgrade from the phone's service center. mainly what that does is to completely delete and reload the operating system of the phone. basically quite like a complete reformat of a computer. all the data inside the phone will be gone forever though.
that's why, in this business, we call it "software upgrade, erase all"

I often receive this message when I go out "Receive message from SO-and-so via bluetooth?". Virus aside, have u guys encountered genuine cases whereby this stranger really wans to message u? or is it possible in the first place? yah, i know i'm a noob....

i google it..but they can only give me cabir...
edited: oh yea...the phone in talking is a nokia series 60...cabir appears to affect series 60 only (from the article)..somemore its transmitted through bluetooth...which is the medium that cabir works through

btw, even if someone send u unknown files, just press exit and go to the inbox and check. anything wif .sis extension is a nokia symbian installation file. just delete it if u dunno what it does. dun open it can liao. even if u open, dun approve the installation...
