  Foreign workers on bicycles can be a road menace. Fine them
  
  I have observed from my daily trips at bus stops that some cyclists are a menace and they charge their way through the crowd by ringing their bells incessantly.
  
  These cyclists, usually Indian and China nationals working at nearby construction sites, have no regard for pedestrian safety. I was nearly knocked down by one such cyclist when I alighted from the bus at the bus stop at Montfort Junior School along Hougang Avenue 8.
  
  I urge the Land Transport Authority to erect bollards or steel posts to block cyclists from cycling through the bus stops. This will definitely barricade the commuters from speeding cyclists and force them to dismount from their bikes and push through the crowd carefully.
  
  The traffic police and the police should also enforce safety on pedestrian walkways. Errant cyclists should be summoned.
  
  Once a little schoolgirl, about nine-years-old, was knocked down by a cyclist at Kovan Melody bus stop at Upper Serangoon Road. The cyclist, a China national apparently from the Kovan Melody site nearby, did not render assistance but rode off.
  
  This is as good as a hit-and-run accident on our roads. It is worst as cyclists have no insurance like motor bikes. Whom to make a claim against if one is injured by such errant cyclists? The traffic police must act tough on cyclists who are reckless and dangerous.

  MediaCorp should exercise more care with R-rated movies
  
  On January 30 while back in Singapore on holiday, I watched a late afternoon movie Police Academy on Channel 5. Although the movie was largely enjoyable, it caused some concerns for me.
  
  This movie was certified R (restricted) in the US for its sexual content as well as nude scenes. The version that made it to our television screens was censored, but it still conveyed, albeit indirectly, the sexual elements of the story.
  
  This was most obvious in the scene when a prostitute performed fellatio on the academy's commandant as he was giving a speech from a rostrum. Although the scene was censored, the story leading to the scene and after it does not leave much to imagination.
  
  The language used in the movie was also coarse, such as 'son of a bitch' being used on several occasions and 'bastard' at least once.
  
  I have no issue with adults watching such movies but screening them with such content at a time when children are in the audience is irresponsible.
  
  I urge MediaCorp to exercise better wisdom and judgement in its programming.

  about the cyclist one, i am a cyclist myself.
  
  i've seen aunties swaying frm right to left on the pavement.
  i've seen people already noticing my presence but only make way when i have slowed down and am near to them.
  
  as a pedestrian, i've seen cyclists ring their bell incessantly even after i've given them such a huge gap on the pavement.
