"Employers abuse Maids" and "Maids abuse Employers" both not uncommon in singapore and else where.
On average 1 case of "maids kills employer" per year since 2001; more if attempt murder included.
Why and how has it degenerated to such a level? Why is the relation between maid (employee) and emplyer so problematic? -

Some Singaporean employers seem not to treat their maids as individual human beings with their own rights. Also, some have the mentality of "getting value for money", which basically works out to squeezing as much out of the maid as possible, since she's being paid and housed and fed by the employer.

Both sides have different expectations of eacth other, the fault lies with both parties.Thus, we cannot pin-point who is at fault exactly.Anyways, nowadays we hear alot of stories regarding maids so definitely employers get paranoid, and the maids probably hear stories of other maids being abused.So in the end both parties suffer.
