Here are some of the reasons why HP deservers its low-rating:
- lack of depth - how can 7 books be lack of depth???
- failure to relate its theme to the society - no? its talking about society and values and school values, like kid no stupid etc....
- character development is rock bottom - even TODAY says this particular movie by another director who did this HP movie on this particular bk 4 has MORE character development than the rest!
- inane monster vs humans - what about LOTR? also have monsters rite?
- unconvincing and empty plot -if empty plot can last until 4th movie and 7 books mah?
- good ol' good guy vs bad guy good guy wins and happy ever after - yesh, isnt that for most stories or movies, not just HP?
- there is little directional skill since the majority of movie is made up of SFX.

nightzip, I was commenting about the movie. Not the book so I do not see any reason why you should speak about the book. Moreover, this topic is about Harry Potter therefore I am not going to criticize other movies which share similar themes such as LOTR; unless of course if you insist, I will write one. However it would only piss off close-minded fans of LOTR. To each his own.

Since you said "to each his own" then why piss off fans at the first place?
The movie... (have not watched, but expected) should suck because fitting in a 500 page plus novel into 2.5 hours = 3.33 page per minute, which means rush.
Quidditch World Cup gone, ok.
Dumbledore's sucky behavior when he question Harry about the illegal Triwizard entry, ok.
More small little plot things also gone...
In the end, the only people who can really enjoy the show is those who have read the book; or else they will be left behind, thinking whether it was the correct choice to buy the tickets in the first place. -

Those are very valuable movie to me. In many cases, I feel emotionally-attached to them and I am able to discover new meanings through several repeated viewings. At the very least, I would die with regrets had I not watched those pictures. -
