Is Hospitality and Tourism Management in TP a good course?

If you think the IR can provide you a job with that qualification, by all means do it.

But HTM don't realli narrow down the job varieties in IR ma.. it is mainly in the service sector~ I seemed to be quite interested in the course, but heard multiple positive and negative feedbacks from my friends and teachers as well. Need advices here also =D

The nature of jobs and the economy is changing so rapidly that sometimes, it doesn't really matter what you study in school. -

Not what people think you should study.

It's a course that leads to a passionate career.
Just like Doc or teacher, minus the lousy salary package. You need passion to maintain your drive. -
But do you matured adults think this is a considerable course to take? Hope you ppl from the working society can give me some enlightenment

Your interest must drive you, not whether the course is worth taking or not.
Instead, ask youself: what do you want? Do not let the trend or prestige cloud your judgement. Go into the course of study of your passion to ensure you reach your career goal. -
Actually I'm quite interested in the course, but according to some of my friends and teacher, it is not a good course.. as in they think that those taking the course will not have a good future. These remarks shakes my passion and confidence

It just goes to show the short-sightedness of our younger generation.
Who can tell what the market will be like 10 years from now? Can they predict that? If not, then who is to say the hospi industry will not bloom when you venture out looking for your first serious job?
People like your friends who think they know best and tell you as such are plain ignorant buffoons. They think being an engineer and accountant is the way forward, or perhaps teaching and serving the SAF?
What a bunch of drones...

What do you want? Put your interest first, then prospects.
To further your hospi studies, you might want to consider some swiss varsities after your polytechnic course, depending on the exposure you get.
But you have to look at the field: Are you a hotel management person or food and beverage?
These choices take you to the private sector and local or overseas hotels and establishments like the Mertius chain or Bayan Tree.
If your interest lies in tourism and event management, SG Tourism Board and the upcoming IR projects might be what you want.
This is just a glimpse into your future path and what opportunities are on offer.

Well,you should see what your interests are.Not follow what people say. But to be frank,in school of business,the harder courses to get in are as follows (not in order of priority) Dip.in Marketing (you choose it in yr2,yr 1 you will be a general student in the Business Studies Grouping.),Dip.in Law and Management,Dip in Tourism and Hospitality management (you get to do BOTH,no specialisation),Dip. in Retail Management (a retailing/marketing diploma,you are basically a marketing student schooled the speciality of retail management.)

Oh~ That's what made me confused. I'm still clouded by people's different views about the benefits of the course. Anyway thanks a alot Will be looking forward to more advices and views
