recently, i encountered a few cases and sadly all these people are singaporeans.
a few examples:
1)A property agent feel so proud and can't wait to tell people including myself that his client just bought a 2.2 million penthouse at costa de sol.
2) Another friend brag about his 'close' relationship with a few rich men who drive mercedes S-Class / Porsche.
3) One friend postponed our lunch appointment because he said that his rich friend flew back to singapore and he had to bring him around to see bungalows as he wanted to settle down in singapore.
Yuck! why these people try to tell me that they have close relationship with rich man. In my opinion, they will eat S'HIT if his rich friend asks them to. Suckers!
Don't they realize that his friends' richness has nothing to do with him. Why the FXXX they are so proud of it?

whenever they have chance, they like to show off their rich friends.
They can have many rich friends for networking but they don't have to bring them up in every single conversation.
for example, out of no way, he said "Mr. XXX just bought a penthouse worth 2.2 million"
Sadly, i have friends of indians, malaysians, thais. I just realized only singaporeans will brag about this but not other nationalities. -
No debate about the Mercedes example, but the other two examples are pretty ambiguous, aren't they?
In the first case, the guy's client just bought a $2.2 million apartment. I'd imagine that would mean a fairly substantial commission ($22,000 at the usual 1% rate, I believe), so maybe he was excited about his commission instead.
In the third instance, well, it cuts both ways. The fellow could indeed be bragging about his rich friend, but he could also be trying to explain that he was helping his friend house-hunt, which is a fairly substantial task.
There are people who like to brag about rich friends, and there are people who tend to automatically interpret things as attempts to show off. They're both sides of the same coin. -
