Laptop Problem - Hibernating and Wireless Connection

Hey guys, I have a problem here which I wonder whether any of you faced. I do not want my laptop to shut down as I heard it reduces the lifespan and also it defeats the purpose of owning a laptop as you should be able to use it anywhere anytime. So I'll hibernate it most of the time when its not in use (can't leave it running, my mum will slaughter me when she sees the bill). I use a Belkin router at home for wireless networking.
Now heres the problem. When my computer startup from hibernation, everything went well, it says I'm connected to my router with excellent signal and all but when I open Firefox, I could not access any websites at all. It just can't connect to the internet. I even tried the (satanic) M$ Internet Explorer. It can't work as well. I tried Repairing the wireless connection and also disconnecting from the wireless for a period of time and connect again. It still can't work. I've also tried disconnecting from the router before hibernation. The problem still surface. I can only connect to the Internet after restarting the whole laptop.
However, when I hibernate my laptop at home then bring it to school and wake it up, it can connect to my school's wireless perfectly and access the Internet. And fyi, my school's router is also Belkin.
I need to know whether its my laptop or the router's problem and how do I solve this?
If you need my laptop specs:
Intel Pentium M Processor 740
(1.73GHz, 533MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache)
512MB DDR2 RAM
Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
Microsux Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2

The hibernation feature can be toggled off from the display options right?

You are using an acer?

If you're carrying your lappie from home to school. Switch it off before you carry it around. I've never tried the hibernation feature before, reason being the memory buffer allocated to it is quite scary.

either it hibernates or standby. my power options have been replaced by Acer's ePower Management, which is more useful than the power options default with microsux. the onli problems i have is that i cant access the options for switching off hibernationOriginally posted by ditzy:If you're carrying your lappie from home to school. me turn off monitor only
no turn off hdd -

i totally shut off my desktop pc since i rarely use it. u cant do so for laptop since i always put into a slipcase before bringing it out. it wont be able to breatheOriginally posted by FireIce:me turn off monitor only

for acer laptops:
double click on the e-power manager
press advanced settings
go to power button and startup
change the "when i close the lid" action to "No Action" -

Oh no.. I also faced exactly the same problem. And mine is a D-Link router but an Acer laptop. So I guess its a problem with the Acer laptops then. I do hibernations too most of the time. But mine is not always.. It only happens sometimes. Eventually I changed to lan cable becoz wireless was giving me a big headache during gaming.
Not sure whether u have tried this though, works sometimes:
Once u On the laptop from hibernation if u can't get the net,
Then open Start>Run> type "cmd"
Once you get the command prompt type "ipconfig /release", press enter.
Then type "ipconfig /renew", press enter.
It will take like probably 30 seconds or something. After it is renewed again you need to wait a minute b4 it can detect the wireless net.
If that doesn't work you can try this:
Instead of rebooting your computer just remove the power cable of Belkin (or switch it off in other words) then power it up after like 5 seconds. Then see if you laptop detects..
Must be in this order
Switch off Belkin
Switch off Wireless button on ur Acer
Wait 5 seconds
Switch on your Acer Wireless
Switch on Belkin..

Hibernate = save contents of RAM into HDD and quick shutdown. -

Acer user here.
No problems with connection Singnet or Starhub.
Basically, pls always conduct a complete shut down unless it is necessary to do hibernate mode.
It doesn't spoil anything, but this is the safest process.
Even if there are connection problems. Restart your laptop/notebook otherwise, reset your modem.
There will be problems with users who doesn't have enough product knowledge.
Anyway, there's always HWZ.com. -
