Singapore Broadcasting Authority's rules slowing down the web
As all avid internet users have noticed, the web is slowing to a crawl these days. Many popular sites such as SlashDot and Cnet almost do not load anymore.
This results in frustrating refreshes or reloads. A quick search on Google has also yielded many complaints about the slow speed.
Many users are unaware that the slowdown which plagues local internet users is due to the mandatory transparent proxies that have been put in place to adhere with Singapore Broadcasting Authority's regulations.
Although this is done with good intentions, it backfires as local Internet Service Providers (ISP) are unable to handle the intense load on their proxy servers. This results in unbearable internet speeds.
It is very saddening to know that many Singaporeans who pay premium prices receive sub-standard services. Furthermore, with the rapid influx of new internet users, we can only expect the worst to come if the ISPs or Singapore Broadcasting Authority do not address the issue.
I hope the Singapore Broadcasting Authority can make more informed decisions in future.

Transparent proxies -- the way to lag your connections. It is like 1 McDonald's counter handing individual different burgers to different customers at the same time.

China govt blocks many stuffs beside porn.
for eg. blogspots are blocked.
they blocked many jap porn site, but well, there are hell lot more to surf. -

forgot to ask if anyone knows how to bypass so we can get higher speeds

jurong to changi can take bus. if service #1 at boon lay interchange can take everyone to changi the bus will be over crowded and others may hav to wait minutes for the next bus
bus service #2 at jurong east interchange also goes to changi but residents in boon lay have t take bus service #3 to go to jurong east so those who missed #1 took #3 to JE to take #2 to changi
the internet work this way...similar to what communication hardware and networking concept is all about. all are linked and the servers or "crossroads" in your area allocated and accessible to a specified group of users are called "proxies"
if we are not in control as subscribers...nothing much we can do anyway 'xcept just accept it as it is.

Definition of transparent bridge:
A common type of network bridge, in which the host stations are unaware of their existence in the network. A transparent bridge learns which node is connected to which port through the experience of examining which node responds to each new station address that is transmitted. Ethernet uses this type of bridge, also called an adaptive bridge.
Singapore Government probably added this to the network, so that they can control the Internet.
It doesn't affect dial-up, as this kind of bridge is used Ethernet, commonly used by broadband users to connect to the Internet. -

It is proxy lah... a typical Broadband goes from client to gateway, proxy then the Internet...
The "proxy" can be detected right? whatismyip.com
IP tunnelling, external proxies don't work as workaround... you still have to go thru proxy... -

So thats why, been noticing that loading pages slowed down to as slow as 56k at times.
3 years ago, loading internet pages were much faster, i wonder why.
Now you get imcomplete loads, and have to wait and wait and wait.

but isnt there already filter service by singnet wat..still wan this transparent proxies for wat...we dont pay singnet/starhub $40-70 per mth to get dial up...
