There are alot of MP3 players in the market but I would like to ask the difference below?
Hard-disk based MP3 player offering 5-6GB storage space?
Flash based MP3 player offering 512MB to 1 GB storage space?
Which is more ideal? Are the underlying technology same for both? If pricing is close isn't it more worthwhile buying hard disk based player since it can contain more songs?

Go for flash-based or microdrives 'cos they are not affected by shaking.
Besides, you don't really need 10 gig of space on a MP3 player, you'll never be able to finish listening to even 1 gig within a day. Of course, some people will argue that if you have 10 gig you can store everything on it and you don't have to change songs. I thought that way before, but now I don't think so anymore.
Pros of HDD-based players with 10gig and above capacity:
- Cheaper by capacity/$ ratio
- Can use as backup harddisk or store large amounts of anime etc.
Cons:
- More susceptible to damage by dropping
- Large amount of space might be under utilised -

That was my intention also. I just wanna seek more opinion first. My elder brother got a Creative Zen Neeon for abt $300+ and he told me although can use the player as a storage device you need install a proprietary software to enable and use it for file transfer. My younger sis got a Creative Zen Micro and she no need to. She just plug in and can transfer files already.
So there is some difference even between hard disk based players? Anyone owning Creative MP3 players wanna comment? -

But if I got a large capacity I can load all my songs in it. If using flash based I need to change my playlist once in a while so troublesome to transfer from PC to player.
I got metal songs that now resides at 8+ GB in my PC hard disk. So dun say I cannot listen finish. In one day of cuz cannot but in one month I sure can leh. Furthermore I listen metal songs I will not disturb my wife since she disapprove me of my loud music taste. And I got another 11 GB plus oldies song in hard disk too.
About not able to sustain drop, well I always bring a haversack out so I think it should be safe. I remember those olden days of listening to walkman which is placed in my bag when I go study

i only have abt 15 songs. 15 songs is more than enough for a train ride frm one end of SG to the other.
the remaining space, put files for schwork.
just plug in and copy/paste. can liao. -
me n my old creative zen...abt 10GB...so far used about half liao...abt 2170 songs to accompany me during lonely times.....
depend on individual...me dun lik to change playlist..so dump all into 1 device....den wanna listen wad jus change...marchiam lik radio...except no ppl tokin onli... -

Ranges around 128mb to 2gig. High-end ones may contain more (iPod Nano etc.)
It all depends on yr lifestyle. If yr the sporty type thatloves listening to music while jogging its better to buy a flash-based mp3 player -
well, i use a microdrive based MuVo² 4GB. but now i mostly use my K750i with 1 gig memory card. Well get a hp based one. it means one less item you have to carry =)

Just one case to discredit Flash mp3 player for it's resistance on hard ground.
Both kinds of players will be gone if drop on the ground. See heng or suay or not lor.
My HDD ipod mini survived the throw onto my marble flooring(my marble floor chipped)
One important point - Flash Players are damn light.
HDD players now are slightly more affordable.
It all depends on usage. -
It really have to depend on u...
For example if you, like me have lots and lots of mp3s...like more than 2GB then you must get a HD mp3 player...however if u have below 1GB of mp3 and want to go for cheaper players..get flash.. -
