  Why the law must dictates a mandatory sentence on some offences..?
  
  Can't the Parliament gives more powers to the judges to decide between the minimum and maximum sentencing? Has it to be a mandatory sentencing..
  
  Can't blame the judges since the schedule stated whatever punishment the offender should take given the stated amount of drugs and the type of the drug it is dealing..
  
  JUst that it'a pity since the offender is still very young. I believe if given another chance, this guy had completely changed for the better. Such a disappointment.

  i say singapore govt did a very good job on this issue diplomacy-wise.
  
  of course we must enforce the death sentence cos it is our law.
  
  but after so much "request" from australia, esp their govt and their minister, we should allow this last hug for them. when we allow them this last request, they cannot say we are totally compassionless and we still get to enforce our law. if we reject this last request, it will too "not giving face" to the australia govt.
