Q: Assuming you are an employee of our company, what would you do, if one day, another company offers you a job with a higher salary than what you are currently being paid??
How to answer this in the most possible tactful manner?

If the job interests me, I will go for it.
If it doesn't, then no matter how much you offer me I will not go for it. -
I do not think Im good enough to accept that higher pay.

Lets see about that when that happens, before that happens, employ me would you? -

if the pay increase there is good and the workload is reasonable , i'll definitely leave.if the pay increase there is not good and the workload is tough , i'll stay.

this is a trick question and it requires honesty -
i would answer, you are my boss, if you would leap at such an offer, i would too. if you would stay, i would too. as a employee , i have to respect and learn from my boss.

my answer..
"it will depend on my working relationship with my current employer. If i have been underpaid and not given a chance to perform and excel at the same time, leaving or not leaving makes no different to me. It will also depend on my job scope with this potential employer...if the pay is better and chances of learning and having more tasks that involved job satisfaction and onuses, i will go for it. It is the best of both worlds."
So if you feel that your immediate superior or your employer has been restricting your ability to perform, go for the new better paid job
this are true words from my heart -
tactfully, it will be good to steer away from answer a yes/ no to the question.. the first sentence would be to say something that pay is not the most important thing and there are other things to consider.. like job prospects, career advancement and challenges.. it will make you appear less shallow and superficial.. it will also show your employer that you think of other things also..
there is no harm in being honest to that at the end if the interviewer wants a yes no type response.. i mean after all we all work to earn a living if all else remain constant i think everyone would jump for the higher pay.. -

Answer for the boss: "I will look at the prospects of that future job. I'm always and constantly looking for challenges. If I were to accept that job, it will not for the money but the challenges offered".
Answer for me: "KNS, if I have a few hundred dollars pay jump, I will leave the present company without looking back". -
make sure you're aren't gonna lose many other things more precious den those little extra money you're gonna get..why go there for a little bit more to get bullied and make your working life sad?

frankly i dont believe they will offer just because you have the right answers. employers like to ask rubbish question just to satisfy their ego.

Most probably I will tell them I think it's time for a change of environment. Or I'll say I need a new challenge. Either way, the bottom line is you want to quit.
