A man who claimed to have a bomb on board an American Airlines plane in Miami has been shot dead by US air marshals. The wife explained he had not had his medication.
"At some point, he uttered threatening words that included a sentence to the effect that he had a bomb," said Miami Federal Air Marshals official James Bauer.
"At that point, he appeared to be reaching into his carry-on bag... the air marshals took the appropriate action and that's when the shots were fired,"
pretty sad case... those mentally sick ppl must be taken extremely good care when flying a plane. .
Another man of innocence s become the cost of anti-terrorism. -

sadly, when people refuse to take their medication, and people around them do not ensure they take their medication, this happens...
question: how can one blame anti-terrorism laws for these things? if the dude was a terrorist, a few hundred people will die horribly.. -

the wife should make sure that nut case had taken his medication on time. to prevent him from going loss and hurting other people. -

Maybe it is time to review the policy of arming air marshals with live rounds. Tranquilisers should be better.

Sometimes it's not just their fault, they may have extreme paranoid delusion that taking the medication they are being prescribed are poisoned, and are a means to harm them... sometimes it's more of because of poor insight and judgment skills where they claim they are mentally fine...Originally posted by digicharat:the air marshals did the correct thing.

I'd definitely go with tranquilizers... believe it or not, it's the right treatment for such aggressive and vigorous behaviors when the patient swings to manic phase... How they passed thru the tight security? were they cleared from the beginning from check point till boarding the plane? they should include a psychologist on board..to detect threats or abnormal behaviour

Well, I would say that the Air Marshals made a good call this time, as he could potentially be a tango. And besides that, the world always makes noise when something like this happens,but what if the guy is actually a tango, and is acting as a mental patient?
Could the situation be resolved differently? Probably if the Air Marshals are equipped with Tasers.Then we would be looking at a different ending to this situation already. -

Personally....... Tranquilizers and Tasers are possible alternatives but I feel not feasible..... Think not in the news but I believe it should be a direct head shot..... think the FAM would not risk shooting the body as bomb may be strapped to the body. Due to the above thus Tranquilizers and Tasers are more for a safer and un-bombed suspect.......

i think no fualt to be found in the marshal side, he claimed to be having a bomb and no eidence to prove hes insane + got actions that looks like he going to activate....
anyway for tranquilizers i have to sak how fast can they act?
