Then you are wrong. Pros also use them. Newbie hackers will leave tracks for you to discover that they have installed a keylogger. By the way, even though pros are better than those script kiddies, they use less technology stuff to get their hands on everything they want.
One way is through social engineering. Most common form today will be the fake emails. The fake FBI/CIA email is one example.

Nowadays there are so many tools out on the internet to help a so called hacker on his work. Gone were the days when so called hackers need to write their own program and debug and then test on the innocent victims on internet.
So my take is hackers nowadays are not so much on their programming genius but more on their searching and hunting and learning to use those written software and extend them to their best limits to reach their goal.
It is a different kind of achievement I would say. From a developer point of view, admire current crop of hackers of their sophistication in using software but definitely not their programming capability.
In all circumstances, both eras of hackers still hurt innocent victims hahahha... -
You are right. But there are still a minority who writes their own programs. They are proficient in both programming and spotting patterns. This minority are one of the top hackers around and professional ones too. Most professional ones use some sort of reverse engineering, but this minority will literally go through hundreds and hundreds pages to find out the loopholes in the software. I used it once on my class and i got more than half of my classmate's password. Pretty cool, and most of them never realized. It's a pity it was in Sec 1 so all i found was pages and pages of chain mail, nothing interesting at all.
P.S. i wouldn't call this hacking, it's more like cracking. It's just too insulting to the hacking culture.
