This games consist of 5 teams and a facilitator. The aim of the game is to earn as much money as possible.
The teams are divided with each team having an equal number of participants.
Each team will decide which department they would like to be in, namely:
Finance Human Resource Research And Development Marketing Customer Service
After the teams have been decided and agreed on, each team moves to 5 different areas. Each team will not know what the other teams are discussing about.
The facilitator will now start the game by walking around and asking each team to select either an "X" or "Y". The facilitator will do this 12 times.
Depending on the choice each team make, the following results will occur:
1 selects "X" 4 selects "Y"= All who select X earns $40. Y loses $10
2 selects "X" 3 selects "Y"= All who select X earns $30. Y loses $20
3 selects "X" 2 selects "Y"= All who select X earns $20. Y loses $30
4 selects "X" 1 selects "Y"= All who select X earns $10. Y loses $40
5 selects "X"= All teams Loses $10
5 selects "Y"= All teams earn $10
After every 3 rounds, the facilitator will call for a department meeting. Each team will appoint a member to represent them in the meeting. During the meeting, department heads are allowed to discuss their opinions and ideas and, if possible, work out a solution.
The maximum amount the company can earn is $600. 5 teams X 12 =$600

I played this game in sch. In the end, many ppl in the class end up angry. Cos during the departmental meeting , everyone agreed to select Y. But always got 1 group put X. This caused alot of people to be unhappy. Many people felt betrayed and sad.
I personally felt like a bastard. I selected X to the detriment of the other teams. But then, I was thinking in the interest of my team and not everyone in the game.
I guess this game would show you that some people do not see the bigger picture.
When this game was played at the corporate level, many companies failed miserably in this game. Looks like personal interest is stronger than corporate interest.
