What is cost of economic of expression.....?

  Recently, we see people are very cost sensitive so much so they use this concept of saving onto many aspect of life.
  
  For example : Cost of economic expression
  
  Ryan, to reuse yan, you invent Bryan.
  
  Now, you see OMG,LMAO, LOL... and so on.
  
  Why so stingy to express in words? Will this help? Will it cause confusion or miscommuinication?
