UOL degree course in SIM.

if im going to take a UOL degree course in SIM, is it possible for me to study the first 2 years in singapore and the last year in london? because i heard there is this choice of completing the last year of the degree in london.
and what is the difference in the degree that was completed purely in singapore and the one with last year being completed in london?
like is there any benefits to it? -

I have not seen anyone studied the first 2 years in S'pore and last year in London. But, there are cases whereby some students do exceptionally well and are awarded scholarship to London - LSE - London School of Economics (LSE is one of the best Uni in the world, top 4 or 5 at least)
The one that can do the last year overseas is probably RMIT. RMIT students are encourage to study for one sem ( i think) in RMIT Australia. This is not applicable to UOL.
Those who complete in Singapore will have a cert that says Degree awarded EXTERNALLY. Other than that it is all the same. We take the same standard of paper, as those in London.

Hmm. I believe that there will be an indication on your cert that you did it as an external student, I'm not sure. I guess the question you should be asking yourself is that will companies discriminate against external programmes when it comes to employment. I believe that this is very important with the job market being so darn competitive these days, you would want to make the right decision as to your institution or avenue of choice in persuance of your degree. I mean I am in your shoes as well, and everytime I go for one of those education fairs, the same question always hangs at the back of my mind-if I do this programme, at this institution, through this avenue,, will I be employable in the future come graduation.

going oversea for the degree is very expensive if i were to complete the whole 3 years there.
1 year is still ok... 3 years? dont know family can affort it or not leh...
the external UOL degree from SIM is not as recognised as the degree straight from UOL right?
its better to take the degree from the university than as an external student right? -
never heard that 3rd yr can do in london
but those who got first class are offered scholarship to study in LSE...
i know of somebody..
who study in UOL..and according to her another friend..she did very well and went to Uni of Melbourne to complete her studies...

But i have met cases where they transfer their credits to another university in Aussie and complete his final yr there with a on-campus certification.
Hmm... one of the best example would be my professor.
He went to UK and does his first 2 yrs studies in the Univeristy of Wales, Cardiff (Which seems to be the best among all the campus). But becoz of financial reason, he has to come back to Singapore and work for ard half a yr and then went to Aussie to complete his Degree in the University of southen Australia (Now is dropping but was once a 3-4 star university). And then he went to the university of Wollonggong to complete his MBA, and then PHD... -

Actually i'm interested in the thread starter's question.
Becoz i'm thinking of taking up the Unversity of Australia Bachelor of Commerce course, and hoping to finish my final year in Aussie too. -

You mean Australian National University izzit? Hmm,but I dun think they offer any external programmes here in sg.
From what I know, there is this Monash Programme in Singapore where they actually allow you to do the programme for as long as you want in Singapore. Then when you feel like it, you can transfer over to their campus (not the main campus at Clayton though, some place called Gippsland, 300 km away from Melb) anytime during your course of study. When you complete your degree, your certificate does not indicate that you were a external student as all your papers will be marked in Australia. I guess the same thing applies for the RMIT programme at SIM. -

u mean nus ntu and smu? yeah many ppl have been saying the same thing to me. Stay local, it'll assure u of a job. If you go overseas, ppl will think that it's because you can't make it here in Singapore, that is why have to resort to going overseas. Funny, most of the ppl who told me this are studying or have studied in the local universities.
