  The Plextor PX-716A...cost 189 bucks though...single and dual layers supported... but i wud advise you not to get dvd burners now..get them when blue-ray comes up

  Writing speed is a must...Dual layer...shud be 2nd priority...

  Yes Blu Ray will start off very expensive. Since it's almost 6x more storage compared to DVD single layer.
  
  It's not worth to wait lah.
  When Blu Ray is 2-3 yrs old then consider. Because when it's out, it will quite definitely be problematic.

  I using Samsung DVD R/RW Single/Dual only cost $100 over ... not a bad one for normal burning

  DVD was introduced to the world like 5-7 years ago.
  Now then we get an Affordable DVD burner.

  which brand is subjective...
  
  internal drive - lower cost for better performance and features
  
  for portability, just buy an external casing, preferably with firewire if u comp has it as well. Casing can also be used as portable harddisk.
