Comp keyboard's gone crazy. Need help!!!

  Just installed WinXP on my previously Win98 comp.
  
  Now if I Shift the '2' button on my keyboard, it should display '@' but instead it comes out this: "
  
  # button becomes £
  right slant stroke becomes #
  single verticle line character, near 'Enter' key displays ~
  ~ key displays ¬

  make sure your keyboard setting is US keyboard, not international or anything else...

  I think you set your keyboard to European keyboard. European keyboard has the Sterling pound sign.

  Go to Control and select Regional and Language Settings
  
  Select the Languages tab.
  
  There's a part that says "text services and input language". Click "Details"
  
  Another window will open.
  
  Under Default input language, choose English (United States) - US
  
  Click OK and you are done.

  Install the English US using XP CD.

  AHHHHH.....
