Why spend $150,000 on Khoo's trivial pursuit?

THERE is no doubt that Mr Khoo Swee Chiow has achieved remarkable feats. He has proven that 'he can do it'. After putting Singapore on the mountain-climbing and polar-expedition maps, Mr Khoo's other exploits are about putting his personal stamp in record books.
However, why should good money be given to a person for his self-glorification? What does his being underwater for 212 hours and 30 minutes do for Singapore?
It is misguided of the Northeast CDC to help promote his self-glorification. The Dare To Dream Fund should sponsor someone who can bring glory to Singapore or help its economy.
I applaud Mr Khoo's achievements, but he should go out and earn a living like everyone else and not depend on charity and public funds to achieve personal goals. The $150,000 in sponsorships would help the National Kidney Foundation very nicely and benefit about 75 kidney patients for a month, instead of one man for his 212 hours and 30 minutes of glory.

i dun feel any effect whether khoo conquere mt everst or breaking some record. it does not may me feel better or more motivated. basically i think its a waste of good money to khoo. instead y not donate the money to charity?

This fella is a full time adventurer. He's paid by taxpayers. He became a S'porean after conquering Mt Everest.
He tried climbing Mt E without O2 but failed. He tried swimming across the Englsih Channel after one Sg boy successfully did it but he failed again.
He tried a few others events and on most occasions, failed.
This time under water for 212 hours, you guess?

Furthermore he lobbies with private companies to obtain sponsorship on his own accord. Thus, the effort is all his. Why should we criticise him if the private companies want to back him financially? They get their fair share of advertising as well.
I think it's great, to live his dream instead of us drones, slobbing day and night and pretending to have some kind of life. Money isn't being thrown at him; he is actively canvassing for it.
So for losers like Robert Yeo, get your own life. -

Yea I agree why not. The companies are paying him to do the stunt out of advertising. If that's the case then accomplishing the feat is really his Job.
