Anyway I find the fare announcer useless cuz the driver can just announce the fare for you. Plus, who actually listens to the fare announcer and gives accordingly wothout looking at the meter ourselves? -

The auto door thing... because Singapore taxis are purchased from Japan (japan use Crowns too, and have the taxi edition).. it is a japanese feature.
In singapore, taxi companies advised cabbies not to use the auto door feature for legality reasons. because people are not used to the door springing open, someone might get hurt sooner/later.
Anyway, some cabbies here have mentioned that many japanese tourist don't close the door as they leave the taxi as they assume it closes itself. haha.
if you notice next to the handbrake lever, there is a smaller lever, this triggers the auto doors.
Anyway, of the developed nations, i think Singapore have cheap taxi. Even Malaysia's premium taxis (Perdanas) are so much more expensive. ahaha.
But hell, you insist them to run meters they don't want to drive you. Then they say point A to point B takes one hour, so charge RM30. But you arrive the location in 10 mins. hahaah. I just put RM10 on his centre console and walked out. -

Sure, our Taxis are brand new, high techy, and luxurious compared to some countries.
But, the drivers of these high techy & spanking new Taxis, are largely lowly people with poor or no Road Manners!

Not to forget, some of the frills indicated above, are only found on mercedes taxis, which has a much higher meter and booking rate.

Actually we can't take things for granted guys...
if considering or comparing taxis with other countries, really... taxis here already considered good on efforts for being friendly, helpful and honest... If you would like, u can compare taxis in other countries...
-last time in malaysia, there are some taxis that has cheating meter charges machine there... I sat inside a cab from to Kuala Lumpur.. I was sleepy, closing my eyes for less than a minute... when i open my eyes.. zappedd... the meter increase $3 in just a minute... How did he do that...?? I reported it the case to the taxi company...
-when i was in indon... i notice the increment of the meter sometimes inconsistent... sometimes it increased 200 rupiah.. then suddenly 300 rupiah.. then 200 rupiah again... What's wrong with all their meter charger man?? There must be a way for them to modify so that they can control manually.. I don't know maybe there's a button at the driver's seat to play around???!!!
And... if they know that u r a tourist.. they will try to confuse you.. bringing you a circular route or playing around with map... I know the road in KL... Got this one taxi driver said... "oo.. traffic jam.. i'll take u there via a jam-free route for $15.." I laughed becoz i know actually i can even just walk there in 15-20 minutes... and not yet the rudeness... -

Generally when you are in msia or indo always dun go by meter else they will take long route or tweak the meter. Ask the total price upfront. Trust me that is how they work in their countries -
last time when i was in australia (to be exact, brisbane)
it's not easy to get cabs outside shopping centres
