ok this is what he means
Two people forked out 50dollars each for a cake and they get another friend to help them to pay the cake. The cake cost 97 which means there will be a 3 dollars change which is evenly distributed among them ( i person 1 dollar) For the two people who fork out the money ,each of them paid only 49 dollars since they have 1 dollar change back each. the question here is since the two people paid 49 dollars each for the cake and the third friend got back one dollar change, why din the total amount sum up to 100? (49x2 + 1 =99) since two friend forked out 50 dollars each initially.
Look people this is easy because the thread starter is diverting our attention to the price of the cake which is 97 dollars..
The answer is simple, its because the third person did not pay for the cake! For the two people who fork out the money one of them have to pay one dollar more ( 49 n 48 since the cake is only 97.. By adding up 49 and fourty eight and the change they got back which is 3 dollars, they will get 100
