I'm not sure whether you read your bills properly. Or maybe you belong to a more SENIOR generation of NTU Grads.Originally posted by waitrose:From the news I read, there's air-conditioning (where I don't know), lift and electronic card keys. I would say that's a lot of improvement as compared to previously where there are no air-con, no lift and open access to everybody.
There's always complains about perverts lurking in female toilets. So this added security is itself worthy of the hike.
I stayed in hall 2, hall 9 and hall 11. Hall 9 and 11 are more expensive than hall 2 but obviously they are better (newer too). So no complains from me at least. But in those halls, there's no lift and I actually stayed at the top floor. So a lift would be really good.
Not for us to compare, if we start comparing it'll never end.Originally posted by waitrose:I read the news regarding the students' unhappiness over the increased rental of hostel. I just don't understand why. Most of these students are Singaporean who already have a place to stay in Singapore, some of them even stayed quite near to NTU. So in the first place, they don't even need to stay in the hostel. Anyway, nobody forced them to stay in the hostel. If they are not happy with the rent, they don't have to stay there. Why all the fuss about this?
To put everything into perspective, the hostels here are actually very cheap as compared to those in UK and many other places. So don't complain.
condo have...but dats for staff only...students live in HDB room one...shared with a room mate...Originally posted by twister sensation:There's no need to compare with universities overseas. Its a different standard of living. Plus, there'll be no end to comparing if you decide to.
I agree with BillyBong that any increment must be justified.
$240 a month for a double room??? That's like a $80 increment!
I thought they were building new rooms to accomodate the student population? And all that talk about less emphasis on ECA points and a more flexible Hostel allocation structure that gives priority to students living further away and less priority on ECA points. Now they decide to raise the fees?
I can understand why students are complaining. $80 increment is a lot of money. $240 per month, that totals up to more than 1K for a semester! Is'nt that like almost half the school fees?
So much for the condo style standard of living. That's a whole load of bull. Undergraduate hostels are no where near that standard. If you've been to one, you'll know what I'm talking about.
Yeah. For staff and post graduates.Originally posted by chunyong:condo have...but dats for staff only...students live in HDB room one...shared with a room mate...
Not all rooms are double rooms. Some are single rooms.Originally posted by chunyong:students live in HDB room one...shared with a room mate...
