time like for everyday, will break down faster? Can anyone give a full explanation?

some dun turn on spoilt within days or mths...some on 24/7 still running after more than 5 years...

If you never turn on and off your hard disk, it won't spoil that easily. Better to let it rest though. Letting the hard disk run and run without resting will spoil your computer.

Computers are built to operate 24/7. However, do shutdown your computer when you are not planning to use it for next few hours. And don't shutdown and switch on your computer repeatedly unless necessary as it will reduce the lifespan of your system

haha...muz see the different type of comp is for different condition...like for
some made to tahan without closing it...take a look at some of the companies
which nv off their comps 1...and the best example is the computers at the
airport there...it's always 24 hr on so customer can use it anytime -
Not all computer have the 24/7 feature. If u turn on the computer for at least 24hrs and left it running on some models, it may lead to hard disk failure, or monitor to be spoilt.

i think it can run properly if it is well cooled.
my comp can be left on for quite some time, but we never let it run continuously for more than a week. but they're 5 fans in it, so its quite alright.
for my school's comps they're left in a super cold room (they care more for the comps than us) so they're pretty much on all the time. -
Theoretically, they can last for as long as there's a power supply. In practice, the heat accumulation can damage the components inside.
I never leave my laptop on for more than 24 hours. If I'm going to leave it alone for more than four hours I'll switch it off.
Also, when I'm using it at home I use a laptop cooling pad. On the move, I use Speedballs.

by the way, have you ever seen the internet 'down' before? it's after-all a gigiantic network of computers!!?!

Go to power option and set the harddisk sleep option to 3min so that when you are not using ur harddisk will go into "resting" mode. set ur monitor off too so that you don't damage your laptop screen when you are away. my laptop and desktop operate 24/7 unless i encounter power failure else it will be running all the time and i have no problem with it except a reboot once in a bluemoon.

Fact: Starting up and shutting down, wears down hard disks faster. -
Yeah. Monitor.. Damm killer, must off one. CPU never mind. I got my entire casing open, can see all the stuff inside - can also change easily. The things that I realise that break down easier are monitor, psu and graphics card. i have an extra cooler for cpu so its alright. graphics card.. ati de. dun like. regret buying.
But really, I wun last 5 years la. Siao, 1 year jiu upgrade le, den jiu muz shutdown.. few months sure will shutdown a several times one. -

if you know a place call 'data/server room' , you know they can run 24/7 for endless years..
They are supposed to do that but server is not immune to failure too. Hard disk failure are common. The only difference is most data centres have redundancy built in like a spare disk or whatever so in case the primary fail the secondary take over. Redundancy can be in the form of software or hardware format

maybe when you put the cooling pad, you actually block the ventilation and prevented the hot air from coming out? so it actually fails faster?
anyway, do you know where to buy these? how much will it cost? and got any picture of it? does you need to add water to the pad or the pad made of liquids or metal?
