just received the tax form for the above.
knn, really dont understand why we have to pay property tax.
MIW is just trying to squeeze us dry. -
Not only property tax also come along with TV licence. Can I dun pay TV licence act blur dun have TV at home. They will send ppl to my house do spot check? hehehehe

I always wonder about Property Tax as well because for HDB we're like renting from the government and only made to feel like we are owning it

U mean they actually send a physical person to knock on your door and give you a warning? I tot usually is send a reminder or warning letter? You owe them how much to deserve such a grand treatment? -

MDA didn't send a letter. and i'm surprise they didn't inform me about the Tv lincense thing though i have to pay property tax. -
i din even receive a notice from them on the deduction from my giro account

you can actually write to MDA to cancel your tv licence, declaring that you no longer have a TV set on the premises.

110 per year is ridiculous.
and i still pay ctv. -
our govt will have a very good christmas and new year as households queue up to pay their tv license and property tax.
80000 households x 110 per household = 8.8 million minimum -
Property Tax is one of govt's way of getting money from people without having to provide any service or product and to ensure revenue. Just like GST and income tax.
There is no way you can escape from not paying property tax except you don't 'own' any. Same thing with GST and income tax. You need not pay any GST if you don't buy anything from any company or anyone who's GST registered. Don't earn more than $2K and you don't have to pay income tax.
See it from this perspective. Govt own all the land in Singapore, you buy a flat/apartment on govt's land, so you need to pay off your property amount. You take loan from HDB/bank and they charge you interest for the loan. (You loan because you cannot pay up the entire sum immediately). You contribute to the economy by doing that. Govt earn, banks earn and you pay!
Then, govt wants to fleece you more, so make you pay property tax because the flat/apartment/house you are living in is on the land which doesn't belong to you but to the govt. Unless you can elevate the property in the air and keep it moving, perhaps you need not pay property tax.
Just like a car, you need to pay road tax as yr car is in contact with the road.
All in all, these are avenues that govt has put in place to get money from people on regular basis.
For TV and radio licenses, just get rid of yr goggle box and radio and you need not pay! I think the authorities will do spot checks at those premises that don't pay. -
As Elindra had mentioned earlier.
HDB occupants DO NOT OWN the bloody HDB flats!
So please try not to associate the word OWN with HDB flats!
BTW, election is comming, so guys and girls, its time to give those who keep on insisting we OWN our HDB flats a piece of our humble opinion (if you live in contested areas that is).
Educate your parents and elderlies too!
Tell them they DO NOT OWN the HDB flats and yet they have to pay PROPERTY TAX! Show them the tax slip!! -

yeh lor....i dun live on the ground neber touch the land how can i say my flat apartment occupy gvn land? i dun watch so much tv can pay pro-rated of 9.17 tv lic pm? i bring out my trash to throw at rubbish collection point can no need pay s/cc? i dun call use my house phone so often why must pay 25 dollar base tfor tel bills? must hav free incoming residential line call since i so loyal to telecoms from small using the singtel residential line. cpf ordinary should be utilized for car loans, medisave can be used for buying life and endowment insurance plans, unit trust wif fund manager, special account use for foreign investment and shares, more rebates for utility bills etc etc
