Why do Non Christians celebrate Xmas

First, you need to define what it means to celebrate Christmas. Does it involve saying "merry christmas" to your friends, or does it involve going to church and what not?
Until this is clarified, non-christians celebrating christmas can simply be put as an excuse to celebrate a holiday, encouraged by retailers and businessmen, of course. The occasion gives people an excuse to give presents to their loved ones or gorge themselves to death on food. Although the easiest way to describe why they celebrate christmas is already given :many singaporeans are sadly just blind followers.
I myself am a non-christian, but I still buy gifts for my friends. Why? Because everyone is doing it. The result is that Christmas seems to become a day of giving (like Valentine's Day) rather than celebrating Jesus' birthday.

but i do feel amused to see non christians buying xmas trees and make da day a bigger deal then christians themselves -

yday, as i was shopping around in Suntec, the sales personnel at most of the shops said "merry christmas" as i left. what i did was just join in the fun and say merry christmas to them too. nothing wrong mah... -
cos we live in a place called Singapore where we have many diff religion and race. We dont live in a place like Iraq where partying on the streets holding a banner saying 'merry christmas' would result in you ending up in the hopsital ward

It's not a religious day. It's not an obligational festival whereby everyone has to celebrate. It's a SEASON OF GIVING..
Well, if u dun wanna buy presents, or give to the poor, no one can force you right? Indeed! Many people can celebrate christmas however way they want.
But Christmas is not all about going to town and shop, it's not about getting drunk and being merry, it's not about eatting and hanging out with friends... Christmas is more than that. It's about Jesus.
And what is the season of giving all about? That first night of christmas, God gave His one and only Son, Jesus, that whoever believes in Him shall receive salvation and be free from the bondage of sin. Hence, Christmas is all about giving unconditionally to the ones you love even to those who have offended you.

I always believe the exchanging of gifts etc during Christmas is all just a materialistic culture.
