Is Singapore food really that expensive

I doubt it, please dont compare Singapore food prices to 2nd or 3rd world countries though.(Unrealistic)

If i lived in SIngapore i wouldn't bother with cooking.
I wouldn't even bother with a kitchen.
$3 for food at the hawker centre. It's cheaper than cooking man. -

Eat at food court costs cheaper. (not at shopping centre, of course, but around in the neighbourhood.) -
CMPB the canteen food cheap also, $1.50 can get a bowl of mee poh tah.

but can go eat steak tt cost $120 per slab -

I doubt cooking and eating at home is any cheaper than say eating out.
Cooking at home involves the use of gas, water for washing up after meal, these adds up to overall costs in a month.
But if you eat out, depending what you eat and where, it can be a tad bit lower if you stick to hawker centers. However, eating out is not very healthy considering hawkers' use of MSG, lard oil, and cholestrol rich dishes. -
I've been to few countries since the past few years.. Actually we can't really say that food in Singapore is really that expensive. Think about the cost to make the food itself. Singapore don't have a lot of farms and can't really produce grains, rice well.. We are too dependent to neigbouring countries like malaysia, indonesia, thailand etc. Still we can produce a lot of variety of food here..
Comparing price between countries sometimes is not a good answer. We can compare 'char kuay teow' between singapore, indon, malaysia, china etc.. Sure CHINA is the obvious winner. They are the cheapest... But sometimes price considers either quality, cleanliness or hygiene itself. No absolute winner... U can say China's fried kuay teow is the best in taste but have u think carefully of WHAT is the INGREDIENTS they put inside the food. how much monosodium glutamate ie.ajinomoto inside it?... when China hawker centres say it's chicken meat.. is it "really chicken meat"? because heard a lot of case in small cities of China (of course this is very rare)... they might use mice to replace chicken and nobody notice..
I think it's more about where a person earns money/works and where one will spend it on food... Let say a person earn salary 1,600 ringgit malaysia, buying S$3 kuay teow in singapore rather than he stays in malaysia and buy 3 ringgit fried kuay teow of course will be too expensive.. While a person works in singapore will find it malaysian fried kuay teow too cheap. Or how if he tries to buy a Kuay teow in U.S where kuay teow are only served in China town... So it's more about WHERE to earn and spend... Different countries have different level of currency strength against US dollar.. -

$35 X 4wks = $140

Errr...no. Whilst at home i just tell 'mum' that i am not going out. Somehow, food will magically appear on the table come meal time. hmm sg quite expensive and quite cheap. u look at japan. chicken rice 1 plate 16 dollar there. sg only 2.50 or 3.00. then malaysia leh. super big plate only 2dollar or 1dollar +++. want say cheap also not cheap want say expensive also not expensive

It is cheaper to courier 25kg of rice from singapore to japan than to buy a 25 kg bag of rice in japan.

A BK meal in S'pore and M'sia costs the same in figures.
But one is RM, the other is S$.
