When leaving it alone, either put it in standby or lock it(You must have password) so that your parents can't access your files. Lastly, plug out LAN cable and switch off your monitor

I almost forgot. You need to have all the Windows security updates installed as well. An unpatched copy of Windows, when left online and alone, can be slaughtered by worms and hackers within 20mins
