They are around. Last time BigO magazine always showcast local band talent by compiling their songs in a CD that came along with the magazine. Oddfellows etc are from there. That is for english songs but I also have two CD all are local bands that sang in chinese.
But I think those ppl are in their forties since I am now in my thirties. They too busy look after children to pick up the guitars and drums again. When their kids learnt to be independent they will come out again I guess

amicute: it is obvious u are oblivious to what real music is. I am somewhat well-versed in the local music industry and its happenings as I used to be the lead guitarist of a band.. Those F4..5566..Energy crap..they are not musicians at all! Technically, they are NOT a band because they don't play instruments! They are more appropriately referred to as a Pop Group. Only Mayday has enough credibilities to be called a "band".
For your info, Singapore really has many real talented bands. But all these bands are not doing well because people prefer to listen to artistes who can't sing well, but are handsome...pretty..etc etc..this is really stupid because then they are not even considered singers, because they only sell their albums by plastering their face on the cover, and every page of the little booklet that comes with the CD.
Give local bands a listen. Electrico, Ronin and Pug Jelly have their debut albums out in local music stores. There are others like Objection Overule, Moren Tea Estate, The Observatory..

yes a band must b able to play instruments! U got it wrong, in fact tere are many talented bands ard in SG. GO to some jamming station and u will get wat i mean!

every band have their unique point.

According to the advertisement this superbands is very broad. If you got > 1 person in a group it is considered a band or acapello or a duo is ok. It is not mandatory they can play instruments. So there you go most likely boy/ger band get voted in
