As long as it not frangipanis (dunno if it correct spelling) smell then should be ok cos heard before ppl saying pontianak give out that kind of smell.
I encounter similar problem before in the past whereby i got this smoking smell coming out of my aircon and a few time my mum running in and asking me sternly am i smoking secretly

sometimes it happens to me. put perfume earlier on then haven bath the suddenly smell my perfume smell. -
I doubt the threadstarter even knows what frangipani smells like.

malay ladies tend to put on heavy perfume lor.... the smell so strong i can smell them when they walked past my corridoor and im at the kitchen.
maybe got woman walk past your flat unit ba... unless... you telling me you dont live in hdb.... -

Sometimes, a person spraying perfume below or above your flat can give this effect. But, if you're on a landed property, or you are in an aircon room, then you should pray in whatever religion you believe in. Sweet smelling presence are usually evil.
it's best not to acknowledge that you are aware of the smell, just ignore or pretend but be wary of your surrounding. Accidents happens when there's such a sweet smell. -
