Tom withdrew 3/5 of his savings from his bank acct. After spending 1/3 of it, he had $60 left. How much did Jerry have in his account at first ?
me lost touch with this type of simple maths so cant get ans $150...any1

x = 150 -
let $x be original sum of money.
so tom withdrew = $3/5 x
after spending, tom has 2/3 x $3/5x = $ 2/5 x
2/5 x = 60
x = 60 x (5/2) = $150 -

2/3 * 3/5 = 2/5 (how much of the savings is left, excluding those in his bank account)
2 units --> $60
5 units --> 60/2 * 5 = $150

---SO, u can play around with that $60, and also the 3/5 of the total saving
...
$60 = [z(3/5)] - [ 1/3 x z(3/5) ]
$60 = [z(3/5)] - [ z(3/15) ]
$60 = z (3/5 - 3/15)
$60 = z (9/15 - 3/15)
$60 = z(6/15)
z = $60 x 15/6
z = $150

if u're numerically inclined, count in percentage.
3/5 minus 1/3 is $60.
60% minus 1/3 of it, u are left with 40%, which is $60.
100% is $150. -
