what was left of him on impact.
his girlfriend jumped with him but landed safely. it must be very difficult for her. -
The poor guy would have impacted earth at around 120Kph-130Kph, which is the equivalent of a body impact in a car accident.
Depending on what kind of ground he landed on, the body can be quite unsightly. In most cases, brain matter will be splattered around the body, as the cranium (or skull) cracks open on impact even with helmet on.
Death will have been instantaneous, as the impact will knock him unconscious, and thereafter cardiac arrest sets in due to internal bleeding from ruptured organs and brain trauma.
It is sad, but I think its either that his time was up, or he got careless with parachute packing. -

Reports indicated he packed the main chute, spare was packed by a professional. He didn't activate the spare chute which was the wierd thing. Chances of the spare chute failing as well are quite remote. Either he chose not to pull it or his time was really up, no escape.

Well, he could have panicked when he realised that his main chute failed. Perhaps that's why he failed to activate the reserve chute.
We'll never know for sure. -

Hmm.. too bad we can't now ask him if he smelled something sweet when he realize his parachutes can't open?
In the past, I smelled a sweet scent just when I was losing my footing while climbing a small cliff on an island in Singapore. I didn't fell, the rock that came loose from my hand bloodied my toe as it went crashing down, while I hung on for dear life.
