I have met PM Lee on several occassions. He's a nice guy and a smart guy. I'm glad he took the RPL to Tekong instead of a SAF coptor. Even if it is to win hearts and votes, I salute him for his efforts because there are Singaporeans who are just smaller examples of success than the PM but who thinks that 95% of Singaporeans are beneath. I encounter such toads on the road every day.

I AM apolitical and I have no ulterior motive in writing this letter. Nevertheless, I am certain that my letter will set many a tongue wagging.
Last Friday, my wife and I were in for a surprise when we accompanied our son to the Basic Military Training Centre on Pulau Tekong for his enlistment into full-time national service: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his wife, Madam Ho Ching, were also there to send their son off.
The humility displayed by PM Lee and Madam Ho was indeed exemplary. They did not claim any privilege, which rightly they could as Mr Lee is no ordinary citizen.
During a tour of School 2, they were treated in the same way as the other enlistees' parents. By this, I concluded that PM Lee must have given instructions that he was not to be given any red-carpet treatment.
What was most gratifying was to see PM Lee and his wife sitting with the other enlistees' parents in the auditorium for a briefing by the school commander, eating the same food, riding in the same bus to and from the jetty on Pulau Tekong to School 2 and taking the same launch to and from Pulau Tekong.
As protocol dictates that PM Lee and his wife be protected adequately from harm and danger, they were escorted by a team from the Police Security Command. Nevertheless, their bodyguards were unobtrusive and carried out their duties in an even-handed way.
I left Pulau Tekong feeling proud to be a Singaporean for two reasons: I heard my son and the other enlistees taking the oath of allegiance to defend Singapore and, if necessary, to lay down their lives, and I witnessed the humility of PM Lee and his wife as they rubbed shoulders with the people for more than four hours.

don't care if PM humble or not... but I am waiting and giving him the opportunity to deliver the good to the Singapore economy and make good his rally speech or was it just hot air he blows on National TV on National Day. -

just so happen it's a culture to "protect" such white horses
even tho the rules stated all are equal.
trust me, i was a BMTC instructor last time.. n u can really see a marking on the white card of the "white horses"
n the OC will directly or indirectly imply to the instructors not to have extra trainings outside wat is scheduled.. (which is when alot of ppl will fail IPPT/SOC)
n will warn not to use vulgar language, etc...
will ask instructor to be on the look out cos the RSM will somehow always drop pass when we have white horses...
actually sort of sympathise these white horses..
everyone expect them to perform well..
if they do badly, ppl laugh n they also will feel disgrace parents
if do well, ppl say they wayang or say they go OCS cos they white horses
so by default will auto be officer.. haiz.. -

the thing is that the SAF folks will auto-protect the King of the White Horses this year even if the father of the King of the White Horses don't say anything, because those Privates, Lance Corporals, Corporals, 3rd Sergeants, 2nd Sergeants, 1st Sergeants, Staff Sergeants, Master Sergeants, 2nd Warrant Officers, 1st Warrant Officers, Master Warrant Officers, Senior Warrant Officers, 2nd Lieutenants, Lieutenants, Captains, Majors, Lieutenant-Colonels, Colonels, Brigadier-Generals, Major-Generals and the Lieutenant-General.......they know how to "zhuo-ren".
of course, they won't show it directly, but totally indirectly. like if got parachut jump, the specialists will make more efforts to ensure the white horses' parachutes are brand-new and are totally safe.
if got water dunking exercises, the instructors will submerge the white horses heads in water, but without force. to make it look real, they will scold extra loudly, but actually, all is for show(Singapore Golden Horse Awards 2006).
if white horses are involved in a water diving exercise with 10 KG of equipment on their back, the naval instructors(all 4 or 5 of them) will keep their eyes(probably a total of 8 - 12 pairs of eyes) on the white horse at the same time.
if got jungle training and the troops chiong into the jungle to march, will have specialists follow the white horses on the left, right and behind, although not too obvious.
all these things don't need to say everyone will also know how to zhuo-ren.
for example, if your CEO ask you to baby-sit his kid, of course you'll give special treatment, even if it's subconsciously, to him, right?
politics is always politics. that's the meaning of politics. -
Anything that is said by the ordinary horse will be taken as complaint.
It will be taken at ordinary citizen not able to withstand slight hardship while their counterpart is starving in Africa.
Anything that is spoken by the white horse is geniune feedback and response and will be taken with utmost attention.
So, it is good in some way that some improvement can only be delivered through these channel without any filter or censorship.
Things can definitely be executed fastly with big room of improvement especially within three magic month of 2006. -
