345 Dead In Haj Stampede

Some 345 people were killed on Thursday in a stampede at the procession symbolising the stoning of the devil during the annual pilgrimage, Saudi Health Minister Hamad bin Abdullah Al-Maneh told reporters.
It was the latest in a succession of stampede tragedies to hit the haj pilgrimage despite efforts of the Saudi authorities to avoid a repeat of disasters like the one that killed 1,426 people in 1990.
"Many of the bodies brought to hospital are from Southeast Asian countries," one source added.

as a fellow Muslim, i always pray that each year, pilgrims go and return safe and sound.. sad that this has to happen.. and it's always at the area where the stoning of the devil takes place. there, a lot of shoving, pushing takes place because pilgrims want to get close to the stone and throw to the stone.. sad that a stampede had to occur..
