i don't generalize..Originally posted by Fatum:Hmmm ..... I'm curious now ....
to the thread-starter .... FTs and FWs come from many different countries ...
which particular "sub-species" of FT were you talking about ? ....
I think it's a bit of a generalization to say that ALL FTs have a better "heart" than Singaporeans eh ? ....
I disagree with the FTs tending to give up seats. Its generalisation. I seen FTs taking up seats meant for the elderly with an old man hovering nearby... Morality has no race or nationalityOriginally posted by Glen999:i don't generalize..
but i think in this particular case, FT tends to give seats to needy people while singaporeans don't do it as often as FT.
so, singaporeans have to improve lah.. especially those working ladies and school girls... who just know how to spruce up themselves, buying Gucci, LV... but don't give up seats...
(i tend to see more singpaore guys giving seat then girls)

i have also seen many that give up seats, but it still a shame in our society there are many who still acted like that, refuse to give up seats to needy that need them more.Originally posted by Glen999:today, 8:45pm Bus 36 towards city:
An old lady stood in front of a young 20+ chinese lady. (long hair, wear red short-sleeve shirt and pants).
The old lady stood there for 15 minutes before the young chinese lady alighted at Suntec.
i didn't mean to stereotype any groups. I just mentioned what i saw and up to the 'intelligent' yourself to judge.Originally posted by Li Ka Shing:I would like to bring to your attention a grave and serious issue.
It is an issue of age discrimination. You all are guilty of it. Please spend some time thinking about this.
When young people sit, they are discriminated against if an older person is around and is standing. Why is this so?
Please remember the seats are meant for everyone. It is a public utility. Everyone pays the fare. Everyone has the same rights or obligation.
Whoever comes first, will be served first. Simple principle. It is fair and just if a younger person come first and sit first. Or whoever, insert whatever criteria here: younger, older, fatter, thinner, richer, poorer, male, female, any racial group, etc.
When you say a younger person should give up his/ her seat to an older person, you take away the principle of equality.
This giving up seat for an older person is just a completely discretionary act from any individual. There is no such established norm or envalidated social consensus, much less taken as a rule or a must. This depends whether an individual want to or not. It's not an obligation.
If an individual doesn't want to, don't judge.
In fact I find further fault in this. You not only discriminate against the younger person, but also the older person unwittingly. Are you saying he is old and weak and useless? You are stereotyping based on his age. You are looking down on him. This actually harms them. Older people need a sense of self-worth more than you. They dont need to step into a bus or train to be pitied by younger people and be specially chosen, based on his old age, to sit. What do you think this will do to their psychology? Subconsciously they will really believe they are old and weak, and cant stand on public transport. Do u think this really help them?
Please think abt this.
And this thread has further negative poison. What does someone's nationality, FT or local, and someone's gender/ age has to do with anything? Young 20s ladies with nice clothes, slim. So? FT. So? Are you looking down on young slim ladies? Are you stereotying and discriminating them? And did u originally had a negative stereotype on FTs, and now think they are not so bad afterall as u had thought?
What's the original intention again? I thought it was completely way off from any good intention. I thought the thread's idea was meant as a kind of social grace campaign, but actually it's full of social disgrace.
no la if i say ft good all the ft tomorrow i go work will praise me lor...if i say they not good they all look at me like enemy lor...same for lcoals and pretty zc ladies....its like for some ppl toplaytheir propaganda heads they win tails u loose.......Originally posted by Li Ka Shing:I would like to bring to your attention a grave and serious issue.
