I've heard of this Question lots of times but I really don't know the true meaning to it... can anyone elighten me?

I know for sure it would make a sound but what's the point of asking this question in the first place? It just doesn't make sense...

Its just another way of saying:
Do whatever you want, just don't get caught.
Or it could be just a philosophical observation: Does it matter to you if something has to happen it you to perceive it to matter? If you can't feel something, smell something, see something, taste something; does it still exist? -
Suppose that falling don't make a sound, but the rustling leaves will definitely make some sounds.
The true meaning is up to you to interpret. No one can tell you the true meaning because each and everyone has different life experiences which leads them to conclude something different.
