however butch is female trying to act as male, trying to speak , act and wear like one.
lespo is female that have explict interest in same gender.
and have no interest to those of the opp gender 
same to gays ( have male and female diff ), even they are all males

lesbian is the most general term. then you further classify into active/passive and butch/femme.
butch can be active or passive, be is generally a lesbian who is "manlike or masculine in appearance or behavior".
femme is the synonym of butch, though it can sometimes used to refer to an effeminate male.
active and passive is quite clear.
usually these are the most common classifications in the lesbian world.
of cos, you may want to overlap a bit into the world of bi's.
