Actually Cantonese is easier to understand than Hokkien for someone versed in mandarin. Theres 56 dialects in the Chinese Langauge. Hokkien, Cantonese, Teochew, Hakka, Hainan are mainly found in Singapore, and which are easier to learn.
some provinces does not have dialects, like Tianjin.
and, most dialect words are linked to mandarin
