more and more youths have tattoos and body piercings

  Recently, I have noticed a lot of youngsters have tattoos and body piercings.Is it part of the modern trend or is it a sign of rebellion?

  its not new, because Singapore youths just catching up with the world.Many of these trends were around as old as 2 decades ago in many western countries, JApan .

  I find them total turn-offs. No matter how pretty a girl or handsome a girl is, the tattoos and body piercings just make them look like a freak to me.

  Erm...I think tattoos and piercings are so passe. Now, youngsters don't go for the punk look. They go for the hip hop look.

  i dont mind small tattoos that have a story behind them or something, as long as i dont start seeing the tattoo before the person.. i guess its still ok for me.

  I see it more to a form of rebelling against authorities above them, eg, Parents, Teachers.

  Some tattoos do have a story behind them.
  Not every one with tattoo is a bad guy.
  For example,a few weeks back i was out with 2 of my friends and i was wearing a singlet.
  2 policemen walked past us,u-turned and stopped us and took down our names.There were so many other teenagers ard but he did not stop them.I guess in his point of view,anyone with tattoo is a bad person.Damn them.

  As a teenage secret society member, I were required to have tattoos to show allegiance and loyalty. It is also useful for intimidation and extortion.

  actually i find tattoos tastefully done very nice. Unfortunately, while the artwork is nice, it is done on a canvas that doesn't age well. Like those old folks with tattoos on wrinkly skins, it just ends up desecrating the artwork.
  
  Piercings on the other hand, I find pointless.

  This is just regular spotcheck. It is a requirement for police officers to stop anyone who has a medium/large visible tattoo to take down their particulars and the pattern of tattoo they have.
  
  Since tattoos are associated with gangs, this info is then sent to SSB where they will collate the info and see whether the tattoos are related to any existing known gang in their database, and file those information under the correct folder.
