Installing Windows 2000 SP3 and above will resolve this issue. Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2) and earlier versions of Windows 2000 do not support 48-bit Logical Block Addressing (LBA) as defined in the ATA/ATAPI 6.0 specification.Originally posted by Xcert:Anyone knows if there are any known issues in using a 200GB HDD with Windows2000?
I bought a Maxtor 200GB and tried to put it in an Acer Aspire ELD PC...The CMOS is able to detect 203GB...but Windows2000 is only able to detect 131GB....I tried to carry on with the OS installation but the process is very laggy....tried twice....same thing...the last time even hanged the PC...
I used another HDD(WD HDD from Acer) running WindowsXP on the same system and it runs without problems.
Anyone knows what's the problem?
Anyone running a 200GB or above HDD under Windows 2000 without problems?
Only using 1 HDD...so I put jumper setting as master.Originally posted by kiss_my (_i_):downloading porn ar?

To use 48-bit LBA, your BIOS must be 48-bit LBA-compatible (which is likely since your BIOS read 203GB). You will also need to enable the support in the Windows registry by adding or changing the EnableBigLba registry value to 1 in the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Parameters
This is especially important if you are sing a registry tweaking tool like WDTools.

XP users may be assured that 48-bit LBA is supported and enabled by default since SP1. Check http://support.microsoft.com/kb/303013 for more information.
