Bikes on the rd.

What's your take on bikes on the road? Many times, I feel that bikes should go on pavements. They are simply too slow and are very vulnerable to traffic.

the worst was when the kids had motors attached to their bicycles. -
I find that impatient drivers will cut in front of bikes, or else chiong to the front and turn into another junction. The patient ones will jam up the way, especially when it is a two-lane rd.

i used to piao che with such a bike, cheong-ing down adam road in the middle of the night and going on a round-the-island tour.

i ride on bikes frequently...and i try to go on pavements all the time...but sometimes...that road does not allow that kind of space...so bo bian...go onto road..
i notice some vehical user really don't give way to bike riders...they tend to treat us like non-existence...
why vehical user cannot be more patient?we use manual strength to travel...while they can sit down and let gears do the work...they should try to be more understanding...

Too many cars and you have to turn, take traffic light. -
Cyclist have an equal right to share the road . Where elso can we go? The pavement is always clogged up with people who walk at the speed of a snail. Furthermore, there is a high risk of colliding with kids who don't walk in a straight line.
Where else can a road bike go. Is it reasonable to expect a bike meant to be cycled at 40 to 60 km to be stuck on the pavement? It would defeat the very purpose of the bike.
Furthermore, the government has BANNED bikes on pavements. It is now an offence to ride a bike on pavements, bikes are expected to be on roads.
Therefore, please be considerate to all the bikers you meet on the road and they will do the same for you.

i'm an avid cyclist.
and yes, i cycle on the road. on the road, i wouldnt go on the covered drains hard. or else my butt pain. and there's 'broad daylight drunk' aunties on the pavements who zig-zag on the wide pavement.
not to worry, i hit 30km/h easily on the roads. fastest was 45 downhill along loyang ave. and i try to cycle between the two yellow lines. -
the last i checked with my driving instructor, the bicycle is supposed to be on the road. it's the mentality most drivers have la. got car or motorbike, they r the big shots on the road.

I cycle on the road too. The safest way to cycle is to own the lane by keeping a two feet distance from the kerb and allow the vehicle behind to pass when there is room. It will slow down traffic no doubt but safety first. Drivers, being in a less vulnerable position than cyclists, would understand.
Impatient drivers should have no place on the road. I don't generally give way to them when I drive. -

in japan. everyone cycles on the pavement. unless there is no pavement.

If cyclists are not allowed on the road, or the pavement, where can they be allowed to cycle?
Personally I believe that it's our responsibility as motorists to be watchful and constantly keep a proper lookout for pedestrians, other motorists, as well as cyclists when driving. Knocking down a pedestrian or a cyclist, means you're automatically in the wrong even if it's not your fault. The fault is that you did not KEEP A PROPER LOOKOUT.
