Actually, I feel it is not as cheery as in Singapore - but perhaps it is because there's nobody to visit or share the joy with last year, when my family and I decided not to return to Singapore.
This year I'm back with my family and it was nice seeing my sons playing with their cousins.
CNY celebrations really touch the hearts only when family is around. Otherwise, it's the same in any Chinese city - no shopping, streets are quiet, etc...
