Visiting Singapore for a day or two. Suggestions needed.

  Hey everyone,
  
  I am a Malaysian guy and will visit Johor for Chinese New Year in a day or so. I was thinking of dropping by Singapore myself for a couple of nights. What is there to do? Are the bars open during Chinese New Year? What are good young adults hangout spots? Are there cheap backpacker shared dorms around? Which areas should I specificly stay at? Remember, make these suggestions based on the CNY holidays, if anything are open at all. Any additional suggestions are welcomed!

  yup some cheap hotels around i think. Or you can try hotel81 branches, think its like 80 sing dollars a night. not sure.
  
  you may spend 1-2 days here. Can go down to chinatown or orchard to look look see see.
  
  or go boat quay or clarke quay.

  hotel 81 charge 80 dollars?
  
  then might as well go to Oxford at Queen's Street. Near to MRT and quite close to Orchard.

  uhh 80 dollars? I ain't looking for a Hotel. Aren't there any backpackers dorms around? The ones where you share room with others and there are bunk beds.

  There are some backpacker guest houses opposite Bugis Junction, but its only one or two of them......above coffee shops. I don't recommend you stay there (I suspect they're not very friendly).
  
  If you want cheap hotels, do a search for Hotel 81 or Fragrance Hotel on Google. They are more expensive than backpacker joints...but still quite affordable. Be warned though....that the lower floors of these hotels are used for "short term use". Overnighters get to stay on the upper floors.
  
  Most shops are closed on Reunion Dinner night and on the first day. But many should be opened from Day 2 (I think).
  
  As for pubs for single, I've been out of the scene for some time, so sorry I can't help on this one.

  Oh Stanny,
  
  Watch out for the jams at the border during the CNY period. You won't believe how bad they can get (like a few hours sometimes).
  
  If you do see a jam, it might be faster to walk that 1 km bridge (lots of people do it).
  
  And whatever you do, avoid Sentosa. Wahhhh....you'll go bankrupt in a day.
