I think the doctor won't suggest CT scan, more likely MRI since MRI is capable to locate very small problems like small veins being suppressed by blood clot, etc.
Yes, parental consent is needed if she's below 18 years old. Even if she's is above, I think should let her parent know since MRI scans is pretty costly.
However, if like you've said, she's being referred to Alexendra, I will actually say that SGH will do a much better job. Cause Alexendra's Hospital resources are very limited.
May I ask whether the actual reason your friend doesn't wish to inform parents is due to Financial Constrains or ? If we know the real reason behind it, we might be able to offer solutions. -

Go as a B2 patient please and it's heavily subsidised for you. Unless it's MRI which is around $300 for subsidised patients. Normal X-Ray don't cost more than $80 each.

hope she does realise the gravity of her ocndition.
btw why go alexandria hosp? go SGH or somehting mah and of course go as subsidized one. maybe if you can get the doctor to explain the seriousness -

yeah..*touchwood* but if her condition gets worse, she'll have to spend MORE, infact, alot more money to keep her alive, blood clots can kill people,they can just faint out of a sudden and never regain consciousness again. U ask her if she wants that to happen? Whats that few tens of dollars to do an Xray? She can't bear to part with the money or part with her life?
Anyway its up to her lah. It's her life... if she chose not to cherish it, what more can the threadstarter, and we the forumers do?

True. Why heartaches about the money if you're in bad health condition ? I myself have underwent so many medical scans and treatment and also decided that getting myself recovered is the 1st priority now.Originally posted by browniebaobao:x2.

As one have said, if actions aren't taken now, in the future, more will be spent and surely will live to regret.
