Still in use? can remember its big bulky size?
My house still have the Discs, if u think it is outdated m here are some tidbits
Dolby Digital (also called AC-3) and DTS, which are now common on DVD titles, first became available on Laserdisc, and Star Wars: Episode I (1999) which was released on Laserdisc in Japan, is among the first home video releases ever to include 6.1 channel Dolby Digital EX Surround
Some videophiles will continue to argue that Laserdisc maintains a "smoother" more "film like" image while DVD still looks slightly more artificial
In 1991, several manufacturers announced specifications for what would become known as MUSE Laserdisc. Encoded using NHK's MUSE "Hi-Vision" analogue TV system, MUSE discs would operate like standard Laserdiscs but would contain high-definition 1125-line (1035 visibe lines) video with a 5:3 aspect ratio
Towards the end of the format's life, a small number of discs were sold in Japan which contained an anamorphic image technology marketed as "squeeze", effectively the same as the 16:9 anamorphic output from a DVD player
During its prime, there was something very special about being a laserdisc collector. It was like belonging to an elite club of enthusiasts, each of which feeling that they were among the very few who actually cared about the presentation of movies on video. In my own town of Boston, there was once a store called LaserCraze which issued all of its purchases and rentals in plastic shopping bags with a distinctive orange spiral logo. If you walked down the streets and saw one of those bags you would know that someone else out there shared your feelings, even if you knew nothing else about that person -

I have laserdisc players in every room in my house.
I have a large colection of laserdisc, bcoz I find them as good as DVDs, and they can withstand scratches.
I know Cash Converters still sells them...but they keep the good ones and oni release the good ones once in a while...
I see some places selling..but not as cheap as cash converters

I still have plenty of LaserDiscs at home. I think I can still play my 10-year-old Tom & Jerry LDs. Average lifespan of CDs only around 2-4 years?

i cant stand the the "jerky" movement of images in DVD. Laser discs did not have this problem.

But laserdisc players need warm up if you do not play it at least once a month....

laserdisc were a luxurious item back in old days. extraordinary technology. A LD player costed more than VHS player .In the past people were slow to embrace new technology because of the high costs. In these times, anything new , if successful catches steam too easily and becomes mainstream
DVDs did not enjoy that priviledge. Because it became too common and affordable too early and too fast. Laserdisc technology started to gain much more popularity with the advent of Dolby Digital and Home Theater as we know it today. However, it was already "sentenced" to death by the too early arrival of DVD.
later Laserdiscs which have Dolby AC-3 Digital soundtracks like DVD and are actually pretty good. DVD being digital sometimes suffer from dropouts, images freezing and other anomalities. However, it is very reliable compared to the flaws of early Laserdiscs (laser lockup and disc rot come to mind).
Feel LD is not outdated as u all might think. Because even that now DAT or LP master tape- tech which are decades old still remain superior to DVD. Lesson is that NEW
is not= Superior. -

well u should know about the VCD story. It is been shown that the master true copy of anything recorded on VHS is still superior to VCD. Glad this sucky format died out as soon as it arrived.

i have a heck of a lot of LDs.. and good movies like Man Bites Dog, Reservior Dogs and Three Colours Trilogy.. -

My uncle has a brand new vinyl record player, and I own two or three Beatle EPs and one LP.
