How to link my laptop to Maxonline

  Can anybody give me advice?
  
  Currently, I have Cable TV and Maxonline. So I link the PC in my bro room to the cable access point which is shared with my Cable TV through a splitter.
  If I bought a laptop and I want to hook it up to the internet. How should I do so?

  If your laptop got wireless b/g, just use your house network.

  how is the pc connected to the splitter?1 end of the cable goes to the spiltter and the other end goes staight into the pc or is there another box in between the splitter and pc?if there is...then that box would be the external cable modem....if there isnt....U need to get one unless U want to route the internet traffic thru the pc into ur laptop which is not an efficient way.

  I have not bought a laptop yet and are in the midst of getting one.
  Yah, one end of the cable is connected to the splitter while the other end is connected to my Motorola USB Cable Modem which in turn connects to the PC..
  
  If I am going to buy a laptop, what is the system specifications that I should Look out for?
  What are the equipment that i need to set up the broadband link?
  
  I greatly appreciate help from you guys. : )

  use wireless router and get a laptop with wireless...

  most of the laptops these days come with a intel centrino chip which has wireless technology.all you have to do is to link up to your own wireless network

  based on what you say you will only need a wireless router for the cable point and ur bro and ur laptop can be connected to it problem solve.

  yup.but take note that U need to configure ur wireless to have encryption.if not U are opening up ur connection to hackers.

  ur broadband link....what is more impt?speed or mobility?if speed more impt...get a router modem so that U can plug in LAN cable to ur laptop and ur PC...if mobility more impt...go wireless.

  i just need a wireless router and link it to my bro's pc and my laptop?
  or do my bro's pc remains linked to the usb cable modem while my laptop is linked wireless?
  
  for encryption, how do i ensure its safety?
  what programme do i need to purchase to implement encryption?

  Router will be connected to modem. PC will be connected to the router directly using LAN cable while the laptop will be using its wireless.
  
  You do not need additional software for wireless encryption. Its included within the router. Check router's manual to find out how to access the router's control panel

  well...as to the connections...there are lots of equipment offerring various connection options(USB,LAN,wireless) so U will have to check out the equipment at where U are buying it from....
  
  example....Motorola SBG1000 is a cable wireless router that can support LAN and wireless connections but not USB....just get one that is applicable to ur needs but I personally suggest that U get one that can support LAN and wireless if the PC can support it....reason being LAN connection is faster than USB.
  
  wireless router encryption comes with the hardware....just that U have to configure it to make it work.A common encryption standard is WEP....although I remember there is a newer standard available(cant remember the name)....go talk to the salesperson to get a clearer picture....

  Try Linksys WRT54G or Netgear WGR614GE wireless router will do. also comes with 4 ports rj45 ports.
