Blue jeans make the man - or at least the man the ladies love.
Nearly 70% of the women surveyed for an Esquire magazine poll said there's nothing sexier than a basic jeans and T-shirt look.
"It especially works if he's got the body to go with it," said Kim Palmer, 29, of Queens.
The survey, in the magazine's March issue, breaks down how women want their men to dress - and which wardrobes never work.
So fellas better forget about jumping in the sack in nothing but a pair of socks, and concentrate on lining up a firefighter's outfit.
Men trying to be sure-fire fashion victims will reach into their closets for high-water pants or, even worse, a pair with double pleats.
"They're more appropriate for my dad than my date," said Blair Golden, 21, of New Haven. "I didn't know they were something men still wore."
In addition, the survey showed that women approve of guys who designate George Clooney as a style icon, and don't mind spending up to $50 on a haircut.
"I like a little effort," said actress Stephanie March, 30, who starred in "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." "If I could spend $50 on a haircut, it would be a dream bargain."
But that steep price tag seemed a tad excessive to some women. "That price is more suited for a metrosexual type of guy," Golden said. "A $10 or $12 cut is just fine."
The survey also reports that blue is the color of choice among women, and that a man who dresses better than his lady may be more interested in dating someone from his own gender.
But plenty of women said they love their men - in spite of whatever fashion crimes they may commit.
"If his feelings come from the inside, the real person comes out, no matter what he puts on," said Annmarie Lockley, 47, of Brooklyn.
