Choosing a school for Accountancy

  I've got my O level results and i'm happy that they are better than what i expected. I could go into any courses in any polytechnics.
  
  Before i stepped into the examination halls, i already had a target in mind for which course i would want to go, but now, its the school that i would need to choose.
  
  I considering these courses:
  Accountacy (Ngee Ann)
  Accountacy (SP)
  Accountacy & Finance (Nanyang)
  
  I'm living in Hougang and therefore the nearest polytechnic would be Nanyang. But that does not matter much for me, im ready to spend like 1 hour travelling to school, no problem.
  
  I'm only wondering which school is more reputable in the accountacy courses.
  I was told that Ngee Ann was the best but i looked at their intake every year is 200-300+, which is a lot comparing to NYP's 125.
  
  Well, i have no idea of their reputation or anything. So i hope i could get some advise and comments from you guys here.

  i guessed you already made a descision.. but i just say..
  
  NYP is reputed fopr nursing, and business
  SP = marine/ maritime, engineering
  NP = engineering, mass communications
  RP = ?
  TP = design school
  
  and the intake, well, yeah have to worry on that a bit. so, IMO, choose NYP

  thanks for replying. I'm still in a middle of NP and NYP. Haha, i've no idea. I need someone with experience to guide me and advise me.

  Hi.. congrats in your better than expected results in your O levels. I was from NP.. In the engineering school.. From where i know about NP, their business sch in future prospects are better recognised in many private companies.
  
  In NP, the competition is high. But if you make that cut, which is not easy, you will be able to be up there.. NYP if you wanna go in to business sch, I advice you to go into Business Management. It has a general business scope in year 1. You will only major in year 2 onwards.

  Perhaps you might want to choose other courses to line up along with your choice of Accountancy?
  
  You might want to research more into the courses you want, like Accountancy and look at the future job prospects.

  np acc has major links with the big 4 now big 5 though..during ur attachment u do have a high chance of getting posted to major companies dealing with audit/accounts etc..

  I'm almost deciding on NP's accountancy but it is only the intake number which holds me back. 300+ would mean a very big competition for me.
  
  I'm also considering NYP's accountancy and finance because of the low intake number and the intergated finance modules. I was told that accountancy and finance would put me in an advantage in an interview.
  
  I'll be choosing some business courses as the 3rd and 4th choices but i am rather confident (no haolian content intended) that i would get into my first choice because my net L1R4 is 9 points.
  
  I'm interested in the reputations of NYP and NP's accountancy. Many have told me that NP is more recongised?
  I have planned to get into part-time U or overseas U if i cannot get into a local U.
  So which poly would be more reputable to get a better entry chances?
  
  SP, i thought is only famous for it's engineering courses?

  Links to the big 4 will do you good. And honestly, even if you get a Diploma in Accounting, most probably you'll get an ACCA and/or a Degree in Accounting/Financial Banking.
  So I think NP is a better choice bah...

  me in biotechnology, NP 2nd year btw.
  
  i am terribly dissapointed at NP way of handling things. we have IS (interdisplinary stuides). these are small modules like communications, community etc.
  
  2nd year 1st semester (Level 2.1), happy happy say they are CANCELLED, but no refund in fees and no official information.
  
  then look at their facilities.. comparable to SP
  
  worst is the IAP. famous for posting ppl in Bt Panjang to AMK, AMK post to Tuas etc, not to forget that the allowance is only $350

  orchard there..i'm an accounts students..my clsmate kana dbs bank though..
  
  and our pay at least 550 a month..

  why should the intake hold u back?its because np is reknown for business thats y they have a bigger intake..

  as someone that is always recruiting accountancy grad.....i seriously dont give a damn about whether u are from NP or SP or si mi lan jiao P...u can ..mean u can lor...how u present urself during interview is 100% more important then the sch u are from....

  Why should 300 places mean bigger competition? When you come out to work, you'd competiting with everyone who ever took acc before, including those from universities.
  
  Anyways L1R4 9 points is pretty good. JC is a faster route to uni. If your studies are good, why don't u try JC?

  Definately i have considered the JC route but i'm from the N(A) stream and my foundation for maths and science is not really good because i only have only took E maths and combine science for O levels. So i thought going into a JC will put me in a disavantage comparing to those who have studied pure sciences and A maths. Moreover, my English is only an average B3.
  
  If NP is really reputable and can help me in my entry to part-time U or overseas U then i'll go for it. For the competiton wise, i'm all ready to fight my way through.
  
  I'm very glad that NP has links to the Big5! I'm now considering more to getting into NP.
  
  Anyone have advise and comments or experience to share with me please? Thanks.

  I understand what you're trying to say but again, im more interested in the prospects and recognism of further studies with either NP or NYP diplomas and i believe there is a value in the more prestige polytechnic like there is more goodwill in a designer's brand.

  have you studed basic accounting in Sec 3 and 4 yet? Not that it is a criteria but it will be easier for you to understand the lessons.

  I understand that no matter which poly i go into, its still my grades and how i perform during an interview that matters if i get that job.
  But im talking about the recognism of the diploma to different universities and insitutes around the world.
  
  Yes i did study principles of accounting (the ultimate basic) during my secondary.

  u are gg to compete with all the accountants-to-be and the accountants out there in future.
  
  Np's business studies intake is abt 600+ a yr.
