M1 Singapore Fringe Festival Official WebsiteM1 Singapore Fringe Festival is an annual festival of theatre, performance arts, film, dance, visual arts, mixed media, music and forum created and presented by Singaporean and international artists. Themed differently each year, the Festival aims to bring the best of contemporary, cutting-edge and socially-engaged works to the Singapore audience
First held with great success in 2005, the M1 Singapore Fringe Festival is set to be a creative centre, with a twin-purpose of innovation and discussion; a platform for meaningful and provocative art to engage our increasingly connected and complex world.
2006: Art and HealingART builds communities; repairs victims emerging from tragedies; consoles human beings undergoing personal trauma or social crisis. When a human being is unable to reach out to another, art is easily the mediator, the medium, the midwife with the antidote; the remedy to the malady.
Art also documents and reflects human beings under severe conditions; those that test the spirit of endurance and compassion. Through Art we explore and discover how we behave in such circumstances; how we share similar attitudes, needs and fears when in pain.
What does Art save us from? From a heartache? From a tsunami? From scars left by a racial encounter, a rape, a murder, a plague, an epidemic, a genocide?
Over many centuries Art has captured - whether through words, images, songs or other forms - how we go through different degrees of agony and relief, and has reflected that back to us today.
Powerful Art dislodges us from stasis; it liberates and delivers us. It inspires compassion and forgiveness.
If religion and politics fail human beings today, can art fill that void?
