Hmm really feel like getting it sia but just wondering anyone have any opinions on which set to get? local? jap or us??

If you mean the PSP, I think that the local ones are made in Japan. So there is no difference between the Japan sets and local sets. Mine I bought it locally (made in Japan) at Sony Gallery with warranty and all.

Sorry. You are quite outdated. The lastest and current batches ARE NO LONGER MADE IN JAPAN. Only those Version 1 and 1.5 are made in Japan. eh i also heard that jap sets lcd is SHARP made while us sets lcd is SAMSUNG made altho both are labelled "MADE IN CHINA"...

If you want to play homebrew, forget about the firmware version cause they will force you to update your firmware anyway when you play the latest games. You'll have to learn how to hack the firmware (don't ask me from where).
Having said that the PSP is a waste of money and I would recommend you to save your money. This is coming from someone that has bought the PSP. -
^Yes it's the newly-designed Nintendo DS.
Yes as the above guy said PSP (for now) is a waste of money because there aren't any must-have games for it.
While for the DS (half-ed the price of PSP), you get to play NDS/GBA games. And that's a lot of great and innovative games.
If you think the current DS is kiddish, you can wait for the DS lite which makes you look more mature and adult.
