The ever-rising cost of making live-action movies is pushing studios towards more computer graphics/animated features. Most of the 3-D studios in the country are today equipped with the latest computer graphics applications like 3-D Studio, 3-D Max, Maya, Inferno and Animo.Bollywood has finally woken up to the importance of computer-generated effects (CG) and the magic it can weave on the audience and box-office returns. It is the effective use of animation and multimedia that sets a movie apart and attracts audiences to the theatre.
Besides cost advantage, the country's skilled IT manpower and an English-speaking population are considered major reasons for the inflow of projects from the US. According to Arena Multimedia, India will receive more than $2 billion (Rs 9,600 crore) worth of animation business in the next three years and by the year 2008 the Indian animation and designing industry will reach a turnover of approximately $15 billion (Rs 72,000 crore).
